This reading programme, for Primary 5 students, requires participants to read five selected works by Charles Dickens—Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, and A Tale of Two Cities. Students will then attend a presentation by Mrs. Sandra Chan, a dedicated alumna and experienced English teacher, discussing and delving into the characters, plots, and overarching messages in Dickens’ works.
Through this themed reading programme, students with an interest in English Literature have the opportunity to share their insights with their peers and receive feedback from the guest speaker. They also learn to identify common themes and universal values like love, compassion, gratitude and empathy, in Dickens’ works. These values resonate with one of the six attributes of our school — ‘Gratitude’. We hope that our students will grow to be modest individuals and appreciate the blessings in their lives.
