Mathematics

Welcome to Maryknoll’s Mathematics curriculum page! Our curriculum aims to develop students’ mathematical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and logical reasoning. Through Inquiry-based learning activities, real-life applications, and interactive lessons, students explore concepts in 5 strands: Number, Algebra, Measures, Shape & Space, and Data Handling. Our dedicated teachers guide students in building a strong foundation in mathematical principles and skills. The curriculum develops students’ ability to reason, formulate and solve problems mathematically, encourages students to apply math in practical situations and to appreciate the aesthetic nature and cultural aspects of mathematics, and develop a love for mathematical thinking. By fostering generic skills such as critical thinking skills, creativity and problem solving skills, our Mathematics curriculum equips students with essential tools for success in their academic journey and everyday life.

At Maryknoll, we arrange students joining the Maths Team from Primary 2 to 6 to excel their ability in the learning of mathematics in addition to the Mathematics Curriculum set by the EDB. For Primary 4 students, they have the opportunity to learn Rummikub, which is an internationally recognised game for enhancing their numeracy skills and inter-class Rummikub competitions would be arranged for Key Stage 2 students. For Key Stage 1 students, they would learn a board game called KAKURO and some other games for training their mathematics concepts. Teachers would also select suitable online learning platforms for all students to self-learn in leisure.
