Our school has reimplemented the SRA Reading Programme since 2010 and has recently repurchased two new sets of SRA Reading Laboratory cards developed by McGraw Hill Education. The SRA Reading Programme aims to enhance language development and broaden general knowledge through its structured kits. These kits feature a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction titles at various levels, which are invaluable tools for improving comprehension skills and building vocabulary.
An experimental study conducted with all Primary 2 students in the 2023-2024 academic year yielded positive results. We found that most students took initiative in scheduling weekly self-learning sessions and working on the SRA Reading Laboratory kits. Our girls also appreciated the self-paced learning approach launched by this programme, from which they could further set attainable goals and experience a sense of accomplishment when they progress to higher reading levels.
The girls’ active engagement with the SRA Reading Programme aligned with our school’s values of cultivating a deep passion for reading from a young age. Their enthusiasm led us to continuing running the programme in the current academic year. We also anticipate their ongoing exploration of various fields in their future studies.
