Library Assistant

Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section), a Catholic girls’ school committed to holistic and values-based education, is seeking an organised, enthusiastic, and student-focused Library Assistant to support the daily operations and dynamic learning environment of our school library. The successful candidate will work closely with the Teacher Librarian to foster a vibrant reading culture and ensure the library serves as an engaging hub for student learning and inquiry.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations in the school library, including circulation, cataloguing, shelving, and general resource management
  • Support students and staff in locating and selecting print and digital resources
  • Support literacy events, book fairs, and reading promotion activities
  • Handle administrative and clerical tasks, such as inventory management, book processing, and managing overdue notices
  • Maintain a welcoming, organised, and learning-conducive environment in the library
  • Supervise students during library periods, recess, lunch breaks, and after-school hours as needed
  • Assist with preparing learning resources for library lessons
  • Create themed book displays to support cross-curricular learning

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or above; formal training or qualification in library studies or information management is an advantage
  • Basic proficiency in spoken and written English 
  • Good IT literacy, including Chinese and English typing, familiarity with library management systems, digital tools, and basic office software
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Available to work regular Saturday mornings

  • Passionate about promoting reading, literacy, and a lifelong love of learning among young students
  • Patient, approachable, and possesses strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with primary school students, teachers, and parents
  • Reliable, collaborative, and able to work independently with initiative
