World Book Day was a resounding success this year! The festivities began with an opening speech that introduced the origins of World Book Day, inspiring our students to appreciate the global importance of literacy and lifelong reading.
A series of engaging activities then took place across the campus. Students and teachers showcased their creativity by dressing up as their favourite book characters. It was a joyful morning as they paraded together and shared the stories behind their unique costumes. The Primary 5 students participated in an exhilarating Battle of the Books centred on the classic masterpiece, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This engaging competition challenged students’ knowledge of the novel’s historical figures and legendary plot twists. Another major highlight was the student-led booth games hosted by Primary 3 to 6 students. As a culmination of their library lessons, the girls designed interactive challenges to pass on the knowledge and joy they discovered in their assigned readings. This hands-on approach turned their own learning into a shared experience, inspiring their peers to explore these wonderful titles. They also participated in a mission-based Library Quest, navigating the shelves to locate various genres.
In addition to the school-wide celebrations, students participated in grade-specific activities and brought their favourite stories to life through hands-on art and craft projects. These creative tasks allowed them to analyse character traits, explore themes in the book, and express their understanding of literature through storytelling and design. Students used drama and technology to recreate key scenes from the book in groups, encouraging them to review their reading and write book recommendations for their peers.
These activities successfully fostered a vibrant reading culture and a joyful learning atmosphere at Maryknoll. We look forward to seeing our students continue their reading journeys with enthusiasm!
